შერჩევის მეთოდი, როცა პოპულაციის წევრები ერთიანდებიან ჰომოგენურ (ერთგვაროვან) ქვეჯგუფებში, რომელთაც სტრატები ეწოდებათ და ამის შემდეგ თითოეული სტრატიდან შემთხვევით აირჩევიან იმ პროპორციით, რა პროპორციიდაც ეს სტრატა პოპულაციაში გვხდება. ერთგაროვნების თვალსაზრისით, ქვეჯგუფები შეიძლება გამოიყოს ქალაქის უბნების, პროფესიის, სქესის, ეთნიკური წარმომავლობის, ტემპერამენტის ტიპის მიხედვით და ა.შ.  

მაგალითი: საჭიროა საქართველოს მასშტაბით შეირჩეს 1000 რესპოდენტი გარკვეული კვლევის ჩასატარებლად. ვთქვათ, ქვეყანა დაიყო ორ სტრატად, ერთია აღმოსავლეთ საქართველო, მეორე დასავლეთ საქართველო. დავუშვათ აღმოსავლეთში ცხოვრობს მოსახლეობის 45% დასავლეთში კი 55%. მაშინ 1000 რესპოდენტიდან 45% ანუ 450 შემთხვევით უნდა შეირჩეს აღმოსავლეთიდან, ხოლო 55% ანუ 550 დასავლეთიდან.
