ემპირიული საერთაშორისო თეორიის ალტერნატივა, რომელიც საერთაშორისო ურთიერთობებს ეთნიკური კუთხით შეისწავლის. ნ. თ. შეისწავლის ცალკეულ პირებთან, სახელმწიფოებსა და სახელმწიფოთაშორისო სისტემასთან დაკავშირებული ქცევის, ვალდებულებების, პასუხისმგებლობისა და უფლებების სტანდარტებს. განსაკუთრებული ყურადღება ექცევა საზღვრებისა და ქვეყნების ეთიკურ მნიშვნელობას, ომისა და მშვიდობის საკითხებს, ადამიანის უფლებებს, ინტერვენციისა და საერთაშორისო თანასწორობის პრობლემებს. ნ.თ-ის ფარგლებში შეიძლება განვიხილოთ XX ს-ის 20-30-იანი წლების იდეალიზმი, საერთაშორისო საზოგადოების ბრიტანული სკოლა და ცივი ომის შემდგომ პერიოდში საერთაშორისო პოლიტიკასთან დაკავშირებით წამოჭრილი ეთიკური საკითხები, როგორიცაა სამართლიანი ომი, ინტერვენცია, გარემოს დაცვა, საერთაშორისო უთანასწორობა, დაბოლოს, კრიტიკული თეორიის წარმომადგენლებისა და პოსტმოდერნისტების მიერ წინ წამოწეული საერთაშორისო ურთიერთობების სამეცნიერო კვლევის ზნეობრივი ასპექტები.
