გამოყენებითი სოციოლოგიის დარგი, რომელიც შეისწავლის მენეჯმენტში ,,სოციოლოგიურ ზედნაშენს“. თუმცა თავად მენეჯმენტი მოიცავს საქმიანი ურთიერთობების ეკონომიკურ, ტექნიკურ–ორგანიზაციულ, სამართლებრივ და ფსიქოლოგიურ საკითხებს. მენეჯმენტი ხშირად გამოიყენება როგორც მ. ს–ის, ი. ს–ის ეკვივალენტი. მენეჯმენტი და შესაბამისად მ.ს. სწავლობს: 1) სოციალურ და ეკონომიკურ ინსტიტუტებს, რომლებიც ზეგავლენას ახდენენ სამრეწველო საქმიანობაზე. 2) მენეჯმენტი სამეცნიერო დისციპლინაა, რომელიც საზოგადოებრივი წარმოების მართვის ორგანიზაციულ–ტექნიკური და სოციალური ასპექტების კვლევითაა დაკავებული. მენეჯმენტი მიზნად ისახავს ჩამოაყალიბოს და პრაქტიკაში დანერგოს მართვის ზოგადი პრინციპები, რომელიც გამოსადეგი იქნება ნებისმიერი საზოგადოებისათვის. მ. ს–ს საფუძველი XIX ს–ის ბოლოსა და XX ს–ის დასაწყისში ჩაეყარა. მის ფუძემდებლად ითვლებიან ამერიკელი ინჟინრები ფ. ტეილორი (აქედან – ტეილორიზმი), ს. ტომპსონი, გ. ემერსონი და სხვ. ისინი ძირითადად ყურადღებას შრომის ნაყოფიერების ამაღლებისა და სოციალური ურთიერთობების რეგულირების საკითხებზე ამახვილებდნენ. თანამედროვე მენეჯმენტისა და მ. ს–ის თეორიას საფუძველი ჩაუყარეს მასლოუმ, მეიომ, დრაკერმა, მაკგრეგორმა, ჰერცბერგმა და ლაიკერტმა. მათ დაამუშავეს ,,შრომის გამდიდრებისა“ და ,,ჰუმანიზაციის“ კონცეფცია.
