მიეკუთვნება ახალ სოციალურ მოძრაობათა რიგს. კ. იცავს ინდივიდის ცხოვრების სტილისა და უშუალოდ ამ სტილის გარემოცვის შექმნის უფლებებს. კ., როგორც წესი, განსაკუთრებით აქტიურდება ინტენსიური მოდერნიზაციის პერიოდში, რომელსაც თან ახლავს არსებული საზოგადოებრივი ყოფის ფორმების ნგრევა. მაგალითებად შეიძლება ჩაითვალოს ევროპული რომანტიზმი და ამერიკული კ.: პირველი, როგორც მძაფრი რეაქცია სამრეწველო რევოლუციის, ხოლო მეორე – XX ს–ის ურბანიზაციის აფეთქების საპასუხოდ. თანამედროვე კ. კვლავ აღმოცენდა კონტრკულტურის წიაღში და მიზნად ისახავს ხარისხობრივად ახალი სოციალური წესის შექმნას, რომელიც დაფუძნებული იქნება თავისუფალი მოქალაქეების დეცენტრალიზებულ კ–ულ ერთობაზე და იარსებებს თვითმმართველობის საფუძველზე. არცთუ იშვიათად, კ. წარმოადგენს ალტერნატიული რელიგიური მოძრაობების არსებობის ფორმას. მთლიანობაში კი კ–ის მოქმედება მიმართულია მორიგი საზოგადოებრივი კონსენსუსის მისაღწევად.
